What is cheap on the snapshot anyway

You can call Qwen today through OpenRouter without an Alibaba account. That is a different vendor and a different price. Qwen3.8 Flash is in the same blended band as GLM Flash and Hunyuan HY3. Qwen3.8 Max Prime is not. It is one of the few Chinese ids that can lose the blend to the Sol comparator.

The 27B id matters because people are running small Qwen models locally. The API price for that id is the comparison point in the local guide, not a reason to skip the weights if your data cannot be sent out.

Chat versus API

chat.qwen.ai is the consumer app surface. It does not hand you a programming key. The Qwen Chat app note covers the download warning.
