The products we write about

Calling DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, Z.AI, MiniMax, or a consumer app can send your prompt to servers in the People's Republic of China. Some vendors train on API data unless you opt out, and the opt-out is easy to miss. Government agencies in several countries have restricted official use of DeepSeek. The safety guide lists the notices we could source. Do not paste secrets, customer data, health records, or anything you would not email to a stranger.

Using an open-weight model on your own machine, or a host outside mainland China, changes where the prompt is processed. Read the hosting guide before you treat that as a compliance plan.
